Press Release:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  Tuesday, November 6, 2012

Pleasant Hill, IA – Iowans for Freedom State Co-Chair Bob Vander Plaats thanked Iowans for their support in holding activist judges in check.

“We believe the people of Iowa are winners even though we fell short of removing Judge David Wiggins from the bench.  Iowans know judicial activism when they see it, thanks to the retention efforts in both 2010 and 2012,” Vander Plaats said.  Iowans know more about judicial retention than any other time in history and have established the template to hold activist judges accountable.”

*** “More Iowans voted “NO” in this retention election than in 2010 which proves the message resonated with the voters,” commented Vander Plaats.  “It’s always tough to win a back-to-back statewide election, especially when there are competing messages from multiple campaigns in a presidential election year.”

Iowans for Freedom believes that Justice Not Politics, The Iowa State Bar Association, and Iowans for Freedom all should be congratulated for their efforts to educate Iowans about the judicial process and Iowa’s retention system.

Vander Plaats added, “Government of the people, by the people, and for the people applies to the Courthouse as well as the Statehouse. The outcome of any single election pales in comparison to the reaffirmation of that principle.”
